Welcome back to our Speak with Confidence Series. This is your friend here, Roberto Monaco with InfluenceOlogy. In this video, you’re about to discover one truth in public speaking communication and influence that’s going to allow you to eliminate the fear, uncertainty, doubt and anxiety when presenting your message in front of a group of people. Also, allow you to speak with confidence regardless if it is with one person, 10 people, 100 people, or thousands, it doesn’t matter. Before you learn this truth, I want to do a quick exercise with you. If you’re in front of a computer, get a pen and paper real quick. If you’re driving and listening to me right now, make sure you create a little mental note there. A little file inside your head because this exercise is super powerful.
Number 1, I just ask this question. Who’s a great business leader that you admire and trust? Number 2, who’s a great spiritual leader that you admire and trust? Third question here, who’s a great political leader that you admire and trust? Number 4, who’s a great community leader that you admire and trust? Number 5, who’s a great leader in your industry that you admire and trust? Right now, we’re going to have five names. Either you wrote down five names or you have five names in your mind. Here we go. I have these questions for you. Do these leaders that you jot down their names or you have in your mind, communicate their message to groups of people? Yes or no? I think when I do a little mind reading here, I think it’s a yes. Number 2, Have you ever heard and/or seen them speak on TV during a live presentation, radio, video, podcast? I would assume it’s a big yes here. Number 3 here. My third question is this one. What is the common theme? Think about it.
What is this truth that I’m talking about? This truth I’m talking about is about to change your life because it changed mine. Here we go. All leaders speak to groups of people. All of them. Now at InfluenceOlogy, we work with over 30 industries; 30 industries. All the top 3% in these industries, they are communicating their message to groups of people. Lawyers, financial planners, chiropractors, coaches, realtors, loan officers, insurance professionals, CEOs they’re all communicating their message to groups of people through public speaking, through webinars, through video, through radio; all of them. One of the reasons that these leaders, they speak with confidence and no fear because in their minds, they don’t see as “public speaking”. They see as a leadership opportunity. Obviously, they are doing public speaking. They are communicating, doing a presentation in front of a group of people obviously. In their minds, they don’t think like, “Oh, I have a presentation.” They think, “Look, I’m a leader and I’m about to lead a group of people.”
Now, a good question that you have to ask yourself is this. Are you a leader in your industry? Are you a leader in your field? The distinction, or the strategy, or the belief of what I have given is because this one, that really it’s not about public speaking. It’s about public leading. It’s about become a leader in a marketplace, and communicating your message is the highest level possible to re-influence people so that you can improve their lives. It’s very simple. Ultimately, it is all about leadership. Now Roberto, what is leadership again? I’m going to use a very basic definition here. Leadership, the action of leading a group or organization. Are you leading a team right now? Are you leading your clients right now? Are you leading an organization right now? Are you leading your community right now? Obviously, you are right? You’re part of our community of InfluenceOlogy.
My perspective here, leadership, it is not hiding behind Facebook, behind social media outlets, or behind the desk. For me that is not leadership. Leadership is about stepping up and communicating your message powerfully with certainty to groups of people so that you can help them improve their lives. Let me give you an example. Let’s say you’re working in this building and then all of the sudden this huge fire breaks out. People start panicking, “Oh my God. I’m going to die. I’m going to die.” You are the only person who knows the exit out of the building. What are you going to do? Are you going to keep the solution for yourself and leave the building and allow all this people to die? Or are you going to be a leader and say, “Hey guys, hold on. I have a solution. I know how to exit the building safely. Follow me. Let’s go. Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go now.” See, leaders speak with confidence and certainty because they know they have a solution.
Big takeaway here. The people who will speak with fear and uncertainty, they have to talk while the leaders, the influencers, the people we speak with confidence, and certainty, or passion, they want to speak. They don’t have to, they want to. The reason they want to is because they know like in the example that I gave in the building, people struggling. People here “are about to die.” They are dying with their finances, their health, their emotions. They’d be like, “I want to communicate. I want to help them. That’s why.” People who experience this fear and certain doubt, “Mr. Roberto, I have to do a talk.” Leaders like they don’t have to, they want to. Watch this now guys, important message here. Leaders have a transformational message. They have a message that helps people achieve experience bigger, better results, faster.
There are other distinction here is that leaders, they believe that their messages are bigger than they are. What do you mean Roberto, bigger than they are? Because sometimes the people again who experience fear and certain doubt, they say, “I’m too good or they have this big ego. While leaders, they know their message is bigger than they are.” For example here. The whole idea of InfluenceOlogy where I would teach public speaking, communication skills, influence, storytelling. Influence storytelling rhetoric has been around for 2,500 years. Literally, public speaking rhetoric is bigger than we are as a company. Really it is.
