Don’t be a Parrot or a Clown

Dear 10X Business Builder,

The mimic method.  Have you ever heard of it?  It’s a method for learning a new language — fast .

It’s the brainchild of Idahosa Ness.

The premise is this: the fastest, most natural way to learn a foreign language is to mimic the basic sounds of the language long before you attempt to learn grammar rules.

He claims this is how we naturally learn to speak our native language when we’re growing up. (though, I mostly only see the opposite, adults mimicking babies…)

It speeds up the learning process because you begin to recognize sounds of words, even if you don’t know what they mean…. which leads to faster listening comprehension, better pronunciation and a bigger vocabulary bank.

So what does this have to do with you?

I’ve observed this same “mimic/imitate” thang happening in the field of public speaking.

And it’s not good.

It’s not the same as language because when you are learning another language the ideal outcome is to speak and sound exactly like everyone else.  The ability to be indistinguishable from a native speaker is the highest level of fluency.

But in speaking it doesn’t work like that.

…. when you speak, you’re supposed to STAND OUT.

The point is to be different.

There’s nothing worse than someone trying to be like someone else.  You look like a fraud.

Mastering the Art of Public Speaking is about using the tools available to create the best, unique version of YOU.

Have you ever seen or heard a Parrot mimic someone?  They don’t fool anyone. Everyone still knows it’s a parrot.

You need to be you… not to become a parrot… that says the same thing as Tony Robbins, that dresses like Tony Robbins and that uses the same gestures as Tony Robbins.

If you do, you’re just like a Parrot trying to be somebody else.  Or as Roberto would say, “you’re a clown”.

Don’t be a Parrot.  Or a clown.

Be you.

Create your own style and your own voice.

We’ve create a 3 day seminar dedicated to show how to do just that.  After attending Influencing from the front, you will have everything you need to create your own style, speak with your unique voice, and never worry about being a Parrot or Clown.

Who knows, maybe it is natural and normal to try and imitate another speaker when you don’t know any better…? But so was pooping in a hole in the ground once upon a time.

There’s a better way.

Step your game up.

Come hang.
